What To Do in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

As I mentioned before in my Nicaragua Travel Tips and Visiting Granada I went down to Nicaragua in mid-June 2017 for my sister’s wedding and had the best trip of my whole life. I have a couple wedding pics on this post, but to see all of the incredible professional photos by her photographer Chelsea Erwin be sure to check out Chelsea’s blog post. My sister and her husband are seriously like models you will die.

We spent a whole week in a little beach town on the west coast (Pacific Ocean side) called San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. Before traveling to Nicaragua I heavily lurked the amazing Instagram account @discovernicaragua which gave me so many great ideas for places to visit!

San Juan Del Sur is a popular place for surfers, college students, backpackers, and yoga retreat goers, but if you don’t fit into one of those categories this place can still be an amazing destination to visit! PS If the pictures are making these recommendations hard to follow, scroll all the way to the end for an outlined list of all of the places I mentioned here!

Disclaimer: Let’s keep it real. Nicaragua is a developing country. These are photos of beautiful mansions and yoga studios and restaurants that we were privileged enough to travel to. Most of these places are right next to homes with no electricity where some of the locals live which are not pictured. The people we met in Nicaragua were amazing and kind and loving which made the trip that much better. But things in Nicaragua are going to be different then back home- all of our houses had gates, full-time security, and drivers that would drop us off, wait for us to finish whatever activity we were doing, and be right outside ready to take us home after dinner or the bar. I never ever felt unsafe in Nicaragua for one second, but I did have these added luxuries. I was reminded of this when I showed my dad some photos and videos and he said “I feel like you went to a different Nicaragua than I did.” I want everyone that books a trip there to keep this in mind, I am only showing you one side of beautiful Nicaragua, but there is more to the picture than what you are going to see in this blog post. That being said, I highly highly recommend you check it out for yourself!

Unique LA

Back in May I won tickets to a really amazing event called Unique LA and had the best time ever! I highly HIGHLY recommend checking this out and definitely bring your wallet because you are going to want to buy ALL THE THINGS! Like I was shook at how much amazing local stuff there was. I also went by myself and stayed all day and had an absolute blast!

“Your dollars make a direct impact in your neighborhood! The entrepreneurs you shop from at Unique LA are registered business owners in their cities, and therefore local taxpayers, so buying from them directly helps your neighborhood public schools, libraries, fire departments, parks, and more. How great is that?!”

My Eyelash Extensions FAQs Tips and Tricks

My friend Jessica Jay (@msjessicajay on Instagram) has been doing my eyelash extensions for a few months and I love them so much! Here’s some

Eyelash Extension Basics

❣️Your typical basic “Falsies”/Fake Lashes/Fake Eyelashes come in either a strip, individual, or in clusters and are glued along the lash line to make eyelashes appear more thicker, fuller, and/or longer. They only last 1 day and must be removed before bedtime. You can sometimes re-use them up to 30 times. Check out my post False Lashes for Beginners for more info.

❣️Eyelash extensions on the other hand involve gluing special false individual eyelashes to the natural lashes. A strong adhesive is used to make the lashes last 2-4 weeks.

❣️I was initially afraid they’d look strange since I have blonde eyelashes, but the extensions completely cover my natural lash so this is not an issue.
❣️They did not make all of my eyelashes fall out, that being said @msjessicajay trained me well and I try to be VERY careful about them (see below). It’s also important to go to someone who is very good at what they do and who doesn’t use too heavy of a lash.

❣️Some people do DIY eyelash extensions at home, but you have to have a steady hand, lots of time, and tons of patience. Check out my post on DIY Lash Extensions.

❣️They are perfect for a bride/wedding and I made my sister (@hannahcburn) get hers done before her big day. I think they look better and more natural in pics than strip lashes. Don’t they look fabulous? Continue reading My Eyelash Extensions FAQs Tips and Tricks

Best Concealer to Cover Undereye Circles

If you have dark circles and discoloration around your eyes, you’re going to want to read this.  Here’s my secret to using concealer to cover up dark under eyes:

  1. Depuff: I used my Tarte Pack Your Bags 911 Undereye Rescue Patches ($22 for 4 pairs) that had been in the refrigerator to help reduce any puffiness. You can also go old school and use cold spoons! One of my new faves Mallory Ervin recommended these Tarte patches. You may also remember that Lady Sonja Morgan from Real Housewives of New York dips her whole face in an ice bath to help with puffiness!

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas 2017

Mother’s Day is this Sunday May 14th, 2017!! If you need a last minute Mother’s day gift ideas for a mom (or Grandma, or Mother-in-law, or step-mom or baby mama) in your life, I’ve got you covered! Being from Florida I know tons of moms who like to have fun in the sun whether they’re by the pool, at the beach, or on the boat which inspired these gift ideas! These Mother’s Day gifts are great on their own or would be even better as a themed gift in a nice big basket or bag to really wow her.

Most of these gifts are available at Nordstrom which always has free shipping over $50 and also has this amazing feature where you can order online and pick it up at your nearest store! If you’re in LA and want to pick it up at the Grove you just pull into the valet and they bring it to your car! I tried it recently and felt like I was doing an errand for a rich person haha, but I loved it so convenient!

Megaphone by Sunnylife ($24) When I saw this I immediately thought of my friend Annabelle’s mom Fancy Nancy DeSisto (be sure to listen to them on the Adderall and Compliments Podcast). She’s a super activist and would love to have this thing at a march or rally I’m sure! Plus what mom wouldn’t like this to just yell at their kids in the pool? It runs on 4 C batteries.
