Mother’s Day is this Sunday May 14th, 2017!! If you need a last minute Mother’s day gift ideas for a mom (or Grandma, or Mother-in-law, or step-mom or baby mama) in your life, I’ve got you covered! Being from Florida I know tons of moms who like to have fun in the sun whether they’re by the pool, at the beach, or on the boat which inspired these gift ideas! These Mother’s Day gifts are great on their own or would be even better as a themed gift in a nice big basket or bag to really wow her.
Most of these gifts are available at Nordstrom which always has free shipping over $50 and also has this amazing feature where you can order online and pick it up at your nearest store! If you’re in LA and want to pick it up at the Grove you just pull into the valet and they bring it to your car! I tried it recently and felt like I was doing an errand for a rich person haha, but I loved it so convenient!
Megaphone by Sunnylife ($24) When I saw this I immediately thought of my friend Annabelle’s mom Fancy Nancy DeSisto (be sure to listen to them on the Adderall and Compliments Podcast). She’s a super activist and would love to have this thing at a march or rally I’m sure! Plus what mom wouldn’t like this to just yell at their kids in the pool? It runs on 4 C batteries. I’m a HUGE audiobook fan I’m pretty sure I’d go insane driving in LA traffic if I didn’t have audiobooks and podcasts to listen to. I’ve been an Audible member since 7/8/2011! I pay about $15 a month and get 1 credit for a free audiobook monthly. The Audible app is great and super easy to use as well and keeps your bookmark in the place you left off even if you switch between devices. My favorite part about the Audible app is being able to adjust the speed of the speaker which I usually put at 1.25x. You can sign-up for Audible and get a 30 day free trial with 2 free audiobooks:
As you’re about to see, I read almost exclusively non-fiction and love biographies, science, and self-help type books. Here’s some recent books I’ve been enjoying from Audible: Continue reading “Audible Book Recommendations 2016”
Adderall and Compliments by Annabelle DeSisto
Hi everyone- my gorgeous BFF Annabelle has a new podcast out with the same name as her blog Adderall and Compliments so I wanted to make sure everyone downloads it! She is hilarious and talks all about Bravo shows and pop culture as well as the celebrities she’s dated and even some fun stories about me 😉 I also was screaming laughing when our friend Meagan talked about how she signed her own year book pretending to be all the popular boys at her school including using different handwriting and purposely spelling her name wrong… This podcast will for sure make your commute so much better, promise! Subscribe ASAP.
Next up is a podcast Annabelle told me about and I subsequently became obsessed with it, Bitch Sesh! Casey Wilson and Danielle Schneider breakdown all the housewives franchises weekly in this hilarious podcast. If you are Bravo obsessed you will love this podcast. They even wore jumpsuits by Sonia and the Countess, they are that dedicated to all things Real Housewives!
Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald
I LOVE both of Heather McDonald’s books (and highly recommend listening to the audiobook version) so of course I was excited when she came out with her own podcast Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald Heather is obsessed with celebrity gossip and all things Bravo (are you seeing a theme here??) and she also had an amazing series called Serial Sister and this whole ongoing saga about a paddle boarder dad that dated all these ladies at the same time and stole their money, it’s always something juicy every week on this podcast and I highly recommend you check it out.
Other podcasts I listen to and recommend include The Bitch Bible, Hidden Brain, Mystery Show, and StartUp. Check out my other post to see my favorite dating and relationship Podcasts. What’s your favorite podcast?
Hi everyone Happy New Year! It’s been a while since I’ve posted so I wanted to share a quick little dating story with you all. So over the years people have told me I look like a few different celebrities. I generally get Rachel McAdams or (less commonly) Katherine Heigl. I take either of these as a huge and compliment. If I had to estimate I would say approximately 50 people have told me I look like Rachel McAdams. I don’t say this to brag, but to add a little context to this story.

Yesterday I stumbled upon an amazing Tumblr called Tinder in Brooklyn. It was created by a fellow Lindsay who is online looking for love and finding a lot of… other stuff… and it is hilarious. Here’s one of my faves:
Here’s a few more gems: Continue reading “Tinder in Brooklyn”
I haven’t done a favorites post in a while so I decided I’m going to do one even though the majority of my favorites are TV shows!
1. I spent the first weekend of April with my sister in San Diego and she gave me a couple perfumes she wasn’t using. I really like both of them, but my favorite is Prada Candy Eau De Parfum. It’s so nice and sweet (but not sickeningly so) and girly and the smell lasts for a while. Also I get a lot of compliments from guys on this perfume. Continue reading “April Favorites”
Just a quick post to share this amazing video from Inside Amy Schumer. Amy has been killing it lately and I look forward to Tuesday nights for new episodes! Check out this hilarious video:
When a friend asked me last year if I would be interested in being set up for a date with one of her friends last minute I thought “Sure, I’m spontaneous! And a hopeless romantic! Who knows what could happen??” It turns out this guy was from out of town and tried asking her out on a date, which she was not interested in, so instead she thought of me and my adventurous spirit and passed him off to me. She told me he was a magician, but he was cute and nice and had basketball tickets for tonight. I got home from work, transformed myself pretty quickly (see how I did this for another first date here) and took an Uber down to meet him at the Staples Center. I met up with him and he was definitely cute and tall and seemed friendly enough. We went in and found our seats which were very good because he had actually grown up with one of the Clippers players in a small town in the Mid West so his friend had given my magician date the tickets. One of the first things he did was he went down a few rows to take a picture for Instagram to make it seem like we were sitting in the front row or on the court which we weren’t. I tried to tell myself maybe he’s just excited and enthusiastic? I try not to judge my friends and their social networking strategies… Continue reading “My Date with a Magician”
I was bored and browsing Twitter the other day (btw let’s be Twitter friends! I’m @blushinginhwood) when I saw OKCupid had posted this:
I thought “I’m a dating blogger, I’ve got this” and sure enough they picked mine!: Continue reading “My Awkward Date Immortalized in Cartoon”
I asked my girlfriends to tell me the worst gift a guy has ever gotten them and the answers were hilarious. Here I separate them by category for you so you know what not to buy the ladies in your life this holiday season:
1. No gift at all– This was the #1 response, no bueno! Don’t do that thing where you act like the holidays don’t exist either that shit’s not cute.
2. Gifts that are a little TOO creative– One girl was given a painting of herself worth several thousand; a shoddily homemade Starbucks drink sleeve; M&Ms custom made with the couples’ face on them
3. Self help she didn’t ask for– Dietary supplements for working out/protein powder; your mom’s cookbook; a 3 month membership to Equinox that implied a) she needed to workout b) he was cheap and c) they would be together for 3 months Continue reading “The Worst Gifts To Give a Girl”
