My 5 Favorite Dating and Relationship Podcasts

Everyone loves to complain about LA traffic. Before I moved that’s what people would want to talk about “you’re moving to LA? I couldn’t handle that much traffic I’d go crazy!” In situations like this I always try to expect the worst so if traffic is anything less than soul sucking and completely insane I’ll feel pleasantly surprised. Another way I combat traffic is by listening to good podcasts. A podcast is like your favorite talk radio show that you can customize to your interests that updates weekly straight to your phone. Here are my top 5 favorite on dating, relationships, and sex.

“Dan Savage, America’s only advice columnist, answers your sex questions and yaps about politics.” This podcast is definitely sex-talk heavy, graphic, and NSFW, but it is awesome. Dan Savage keeps it real and has honestly opened my mind and changed my views on stuff like the realities of long term monogamy, being more sex positive (or GGG), and “a relationship is not a deposition.”

“Join bloggers Kid Fury and Crissle for their weekly “read” of hip-hop and pop culture’s most trying stars. Throwing shade and spilling tea with a flippant and humorous attitude, no star is safe from Fury and Crissle unless their name is Beyonce. Or Blue Ivy. As recent transplants to New York City (Fury from Miami and Crissle from Oklahoma City), The Read also serves as an on air therapy session for two friends trying to adjust to life (and rats) in the big city.” Although The Read is more about celebrity news and everything Beyonce, towards the end of every episode Kid Fury and Crissle read listener letters and answer a lot of relationship questions. I guess they also talk about celebrity relationships which counts too, right? These 2 are hilarious and this is a must listen I recommend it to everyone.

“Had enough bad dates and disappointing relationships? Let Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker show you how to attract the man you desire, make him love you passionately and stay with you forever. Take the First step, in the right direction! Become an ‘Insider’ for Patti’s newest dating tips she’s never told anyone.” This podcast is less “how to meet a millionaire” and more “how to get yourself emotionally and spiritually ready for a relationship.” If you’re a fan of Patti you know that she loves The Secret and in this podcast she talks about things like Ho’oponopono and how to manifest love into your life. Also because she is based in Marina del Rey she’ll talk about LA specific recommendations on where to meet quality singles like Chaya Venice and Urth Cafe.

“A podcast about the big questions and hard choices that are often left out of polite conversation. Host Anna Sale talks to celebrities you’ve heard of—and regular people you haven’t—about the Big Stuff: relationships, money, family, work and making it all count while we’re here. New episodes every other Wednesday.” This is a newer podcast that has been really interesting so far. While the main topics are taboos that no one wants to talk about, but everyone wants to listen to, the subtopics have been really varied. For example 2 episodes ago there was a stay at home dad talking about his vasectomy experience.

“True Love exists… you just need to listen.” I found out about the Loveumentary after the creator Nate Bagely did a Reddit Ask Me Anything that went a little viral. Nate has been traveling the country interviewing couples about their love and advice they have for people trying to find love. Nate can be quite the romantic in that sometimes his intro for a show will say “this was one of my favorite couples ever they have incredible love which you’re about to hear” and then that episode will have like the least in love sounding couple yet, but I appreciate Nate’s optimism. On a recent episode there was a couple who was in an arranged marriage who talked about how it’s really great to find someone who complements you rather than completes you- someone who has opposite strengths so that you can balance each other out which i thought was good advice.

To get Podcasts on your iPhone go to the App Store and download the Apple Podcasts app (which is free) it looks like this:

I didn’t realize people hated this app so much until right now when I took that screen shot, but for my purposes I think it works fine. Once you’ve downloaded Podcasts open it up and you can search for the ones I’m recommending here. If you subscribe then the newest episode will be sent to you when it’s released (usually weekly). I also like to listen to them when I’m getting ready in the morning, while hiking, in waiting rooms, and while walking around in Hollywood doing errands so people don’t bother me. Enjoy!
