Last year for Father’s Day I gave my dad a themed gift that was semi-“beauty” related so I thought I’d share the idea here! I’ll start by saying that the photo in this header is from when my dad took me to Turks and Caicos. We’ve been boating and going to tropical locations since I was in the womb (literally) so this is a “fun in sun” gift idea that isn’t actually fun at all, but it is super useful and practical, so… But seriously, thank you so much daddy-o for inspiring my love of travel and exploring!
I’ve posted about how I’ve had melanoma before and my dad had basal cell carcinoma removed from his head somewhat recently. This means I try to be VERY diligent about my sun protection and try to convince my family to do the same since we live in Florida and Southern California. Here’s what I got him:
Jack Black ‘Double-Duty’ Face Moisturizer SPF 20 ($28) This is a broad spectrum sunscreen meaning it protects agains UVA and UVB rays (major key). The ‘Double-Duty’ part is that it contains powerful antioxidants that help protect skin from aging from sun exposure. No matter who you are those 2 things are what you should be looking for in a sunscreen. This also had great customer reviews. Also, what man knows how to buy himself a moisturizer…
Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm in Natural Mint & Shea Butter SPF 25 ($7.50) I’ve actually bought one of these for myself at Sephora (shocking I know) and really liked it. Again the SPF is great, it’s emollient, it gives you good breath, and it has great customer reviews. A lot better than the Chapstick my dad used for the majority of his adult life.
Rash Guard for Men – USA Made Compression, Workout & Base Layer Protection Shirt ($25) This is the gift my dad actually asked me for last year, and the rest were my idea to stay on theme. Hot tip: Use the sizing chart on Amazon and don’t take your dad’s word for it even when you send him a screen shot of the size chart…. This is a super nice shirt for swimming, boating, or working out outside. I picked this one because of the great reviews (I love reading reviews on anything).
Columbia Sportswear Bora Bora Booney II Sun Hats UPF 50 ($25) HOLY DAD HAT. This is a dad hat if I’ve ever seen one. Again, great sun protection, handy for an outdoorsy man, and excellent reviews. It blocks out 98% of harmful UVA and UVB rays and has the Skin Cancer Foundation’s seal of recommendation.
Govino Wine Glass Flexible Shatterproof Recyclable Wine Glasses, Set of 4 ($13) My dad’s favorite way to get antioxidants is through drinking wine so I thought these BPA-free polymer glasses that are reusable would be great for him out on the boat or at a lake house.
Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19th! I love you dad!
