One of my favorite people to follow Lauryn of The Skinny Confidential blog and podcast got the absolute privilege of touring Patricia Altschul’s home and interviewing her for the TSC podcast. Patricia Altschul is the matriarch/breakout star of the Bravo show Southern Charm which is returning for its sixth season this week. Lauryn is super skincare obsessed and loves a detail so when she was allowed into Miss Patricia’s dressing room she got all of the insider info.
Check out Lauryn’s Instagram @theskinnyconfidential where she shared this all on her Instagram stories.

Sun Protection
“Oh my God I would never go in the sun…. Never did…No no no.”
– Patricia Altschul
Double Cleansing
These days Patricia Altschul is double cleansing her face. Double cleansing is when you basically wash your face twice. You typically start with an oil cleanser which breaks down your makeup and sunscreen, then cleanse a second time to get all the dirt and oil that was underneath the outer layer off.
First Cleanse – Oil Cleanser
Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil Cleanser
For her oil cleanser Patricia is using Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil Cleanser.
It’s able to thoroughly cleanse the skin without stripping natural moisture leaving the skin balanced and nourished. It then emulsifies completely and when you rinse it off it leaves no residue. It’s ok to use this even if you have oily skin.
Second Cleanse – Classic Facial Cleanser
Dr. Dennis Gross all-in-one cleanser with toner
Patricia sees world renowned dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross in New York City and uses his Dr. Dennis Gross all-in-one cleanser with toner as her second cleanse.
This cleanser has witch hazel, chamomile, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins A, C, and E in it. It helps to again cleanse the skin without leaving it feeling stripped.

Moisturizer
Tatcha The Water Cream
“I like this from Tatcha.” Patricia pointed out her Tatcha The Water Cream which comes with the most chic gold spatula for getting the product out.
This is a moisturizer that contains nutrients for optimal hydration and poreless-looking skin. It delivers moisture without feeling sticky or greasy. The Japanese wild rose tightens the pores and smooths skin’s texture. Japanese leopard lily helps control excess oil and supports natural skin turnover. The hadasei-3 is anti-aging and helps with radiance.
Anti-Aging
Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil
Patricia held up the teeniest vial of Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil and said “Plum oil is supposed to be” and the video cut off.
I had never heard of using plum oil so I had to look it up! Le Prunier Plum oil is abundant in essentially antioxidants, nourishing Omega fatty acids 6 and 9 and powerful polyphenols which help protect the skin from damaging free radicals. It has vitamins A and E to help with healing and hydration. It’s quick absorbing and weightless. It can calm irritation and seal in moisture without clogging pores.

Augustinus Bader The Cream
“It’s supposed to be the only thing that works in terms of anti-aging. It’s enormously expensive.”
Patricia’s friend Luzanne (@welovepataltschul on Instagram) asked me what I thought of the Augustinus Bader skincare. I hadn’t heard of it so I had my friend Kim (@sortofscientific on Instagram) weigh in:
They justify this price because it uses their patented “Trigger Factor Complex” which they do a lot of talking around, but it’s some combination of vitamins, amino acids, and “synthetic molecules.” With all of the peptide products on the market, this doesn’t seem all that special. They claim it uses the perfect ratio, but I haven’t been able to find anything beyond that (although I haven’t spent all that long looking). None of their other ingredients are that unique or expensive. Could it be absolutely amazing? Maybe. But they don’t give enough info to determine that independently and at that price, I think it’s unlikely that it’s special enough to justify that insane price for the vast majority of consumers
Just for some context, this stuff costs $265/1.7oz which they say lasts 6 weeks. It’s supposed to make your skin glow and look younger and all the normal claims you’d expect.

Vitamin C Serum
Skinceuticals C E Ferulic
“That’s the best one. It smells like hot dogs, but it’s still really good.”
– Lauryn
Skinceuticals C E Ferulic is a daytime vitamin C serum that delivers advanced environmental protection and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, and brightens skin’s complexion. It’s for dry, normal, and sensitive skin. It helps with sensitized, dehydrated, discolored, and aging skin.
Patricia’s Southern Charm co-star Cameran Eubanks is a big fan of Skinceuticals too!
Hyaluronic Acid
Yeouth Hyaluronic Acid Cream
Yeouth Hyaluronic Acid Cream with Ferulic Acid Vitamin C & E and Tripeptide-31 is supposed to be great for dry skin as it deeply hydrates skin and helps address anti-aging concerns.
NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex
“This is incredible”
– Patricia Altschul talking about NIOD Multi-molecular Hyaluronic Complex
This NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex combines 15 forms of hyaluronic acid to help skin surface look plump, elastic, comfortable and uniform.
