Making this list made me realize I love a book that gets real, but has a sense of humor about it. One that tackles serious subjects with authenticity and personality. Imperfect and brilliant at the same time. Here’s 3 books I read this year that I’d highly recommend for yourself or to gift.

Over the Top by Jonathan Van Ness – My favorite book I’ve read this year! I fell in love with JVN through watching the Queer Eye reboot on Netflix. I found this book super inspiring in terms of trying new things and having the tenacity and resilience to see them through. JVN is a national treasure and you need to read this.
Life Will be the Death of Me by Chelsea Handler – I read a lot of Chelsea’s books and thought I had maybe outgrown her humor, but this book is different. It’s a must read especially if you’ve lost a family member. This would also be a great gift for a friend that experienced a loss this year.
Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy by Angela Garbes – This is an incredible book and a great gift for a new mother, a soon to be mother, a friend trying to conceive, etc. It has so much great scientific information with commentary by the super relatable author.
What was your favorite book you read in 2019?
