Audible Book Recommendations 2016

best-audiobooks-on-audible-2016

I’m a HUGE audiobook fan I’m pretty sure I’d go insane driving in LA traffic if I didn’t have audiobooks and podcasts to listen to. I’ve been an Audible member since 7/8/2011! I pay about $15 a month and get 1 credit for a free audiobook monthly. The Audible app is great and super easy to use as well and keeps your bookmark in the place you left off even if you switch between devices. My favorite part about the Audible app is being able to adjust the speed of the speaker which I usually put at 1.25x. You can sign-up for Audible and get a 30 day free trial with 2 free audiobooks:

As you’re about to see, I read almost exclusively non-fiction and love biographies, science, and self-help type books. Here’s some recent books I’ve been enjoying from Audible:

Superficial: More Adventures from the Andy Cohen Diaries by Andy Cohen – If you are a huge Bravo fan like me you will love this book. I’d also recommend it if you’re a huge pop culture lover or even if you just like dogs. It’s so fun to hear about Andy’s incredible life as a rich and famous person. I also find him super relatable when he discusses his struggle with relationships and loneliness, questioning himself and his behavior, and spilling about embarrassing and awkward moments. Andy will make you want to live your life to the fullest for sure. This book is also a nice escape from the holidays and the stress they can bring on as it’s a mostly light and fun reading.

Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science that Will Transform Your Sex Life by Emily Nagoski – This book is absolutely amazing you will learn SO MUCH about sex, sexuality, our brains, relationships, etc. My favorite part about this book is when she talks about processing feelings and exactly step by step how to do that and “complete the cycle”. This book is warm, educational, interesting, and super helpful and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I will probably re-listen to this book because it was that good.

You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein – I heard about this book from People Magazine. Jessi is a writer on one of my favorite shows- Inside Amy Schumer so I knew this book would be my style. This is a bunch of personal essays about herself and her life that I really enjoyed. This is a funny book, but it’s definitely got lots of serious topics and goes pretty deep. I especially loved when she went to the fancy spiritual resort, the chapter about her wedding dress, and hearing about her fertility struggles.

The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer – Like I mentioned about I love Amy Schumer and all of her work so I was really excited to listen to this book. Just a warning: yes she’s a comedian and parts of this book are very funny, but this is not a light and fluffy read Amy talks about being in an abusive relationship and being raped. I loved when she talked about being an introvert because it me.

I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends: Confessions of a Reality Show Villain by Courtney Robertson – I’m a Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor in Paradise fan and listened to this while the show was on the air and felt like I was getting the hot tea on how the show REALLY works. Juicy stuff and fun read for sure. Courtney also dated other celebs and gives the low down on them as well.

Rising Strong: The Reckoning. The Rumble. The Revolution by Brene Brown – I think I’ve listened to every one of Brene’s books at this point and I just LOVE her work and her personality. She’s a social worker who researchers vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame. She’s also a good ol’ Texas gal and hilarious. This book is about what to do after you tried and failed. How do you dust yourself off and keep going? I bought the hard cover of this one and preferred the audiobook version. My favorite part of the book was “the story I’m telling myself in my head is…” Brene Brown’s TED Talk on The Power of Vulnerability is one of the most viewed TED Talks ever and will give you a good glimpse into what the book is like.

Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes – Shonda is the creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal and is EP on How to Get Away With Murder, but is just as afraid of awkward party small talk and looking like an idiot as you and I. I wrote an entire post on this book that you can check out for more info.
