I received the Lorac Pro Palette 2 for Christmas and have been loving it! Right on Christmas day I even used it to create this Jade Smokey Eye look that I wore for the festivities as well as family portraits that I took for my dad’s present with my new Canon Rebel t3i. This palette is super versatile, can create day or night looks, and has both matte and shimmer shades. I would say the biggest downfall is you can get some serious fall out (when they eyeshadow gets on your cheeks while applying), but that can be avoided by applying dark or dramatic looks before doing your foundation routine like I did during this tutorial.
I think I took a little longer than I needed to post this video because a) it was my first voice-over which I felt a little nervous about and b) the final eyeshadow look was a tiny bit uneven at the end which I wasn’t happy about. I just want to reiterate that I’m not a makeup artist or a professional, just a makeup and beauty enthusiast. I hope you guys enjoy watching this video and get some ideas or inspiration.

I filmed this video while at home for the holidays and used my step mom’s brand new Simplehuman 5X Sensor Vanity Mirror while applying my makeup. She got it because she wears glasses and needs to magnification in order to be able to see herself while she’s applying makeup. This mirror is really popular and has great reviews on both bedbathandbeyond.com as well as sephora.com and I was excited to try it because I wanted to know if the hefty price tag ($200!) was worth it for a little vanity mirror.
The mirror uses LED lighting that simulates natural sunlight and, is 9″ in diameter and has a distortion-free curvature for intense clarity. It’s sensor activated which is why in the video you can see the light occasionally turning off. This was my #1 con about this mirror besides the price tag- there’s no way to make the light just stay continually on! It HAS to be on the sensor-activated setting only. I like that the bulbs never burn out, it’s cordless, the charge lasts a few weeks, there’s a 5 year warranty and the lighting was nice, but was it worth $200? Not in my opinion. It’s a nice splurge if you’re looking for a solid product that will last you a while, but only if you’re ok with both the pros and cons. If you are still interested in the light I would definitely purchase it through bedbathandbeyond.com and use a 20% off coupon as they have free shipping as well.
I got the much more affordable Conair Reflections LED Lighted Collection Mirror from Amazon ($39.99) and I’m loving it. Mine’s an 8.5″x6.5″ oval and is double-sided with one side giving 1x/7x magnification. It uses LED lights that don’t need to be replaced, but it uses 3AA batteries vs. being rechargeable. This is a solid, nice looking mirror and I like that there’s both a low and high option for the LED lights. I’m super happy with this one and it is a fraction of the price.
