Clothes I Bought on Amazon and Love aka Colette Prime Made Me Do It

I have been LOVING Amazon Fashion the past 2ish years. I figured I’d do a round up of some of my favorite summer dresses and cute tops that I bought from Amazon. Shopping for clothes on Amazon is my new normal, but I forget that lots of people still have never tried it! I’m here to say that no it’s not perfect, but don’t be afraid! I’ve found so many cute pieces at amazing prices! And they’ve held up too!

How to Visit Beverly Hills Like the Real Housewives

If you’re a Bravo and Real Housewives super fan then you know that Andy Cohen had the most lit baby shower of all time at The Palm in Beverly Hills recently. Real Housewives from EVERY city were in attendance! But where else did they eat, drink, and play at in Beverly Hills? Lucky for you I recorded all of their Instagram stories and took screen shots so I could share! This way when you visit Beverly Hills you can live it up like a Real Housewife!

Unique LA

Back in May I won tickets to a really amazing event called Unique LA and had the best time ever! I highly HIGHLY recommend checking this out and definitely bring your wallet because you are going to want to buy ALL THE THINGS! Like I was shook at how much amazing local stuff there was. I also went by myself and stayed all day and had an absolute blast!

“Your dollars make a direct impact in your neighborhood! The entrepreneurs you shop from at Unique LA are registered business owners in their cities, and therefore local taxpayers, so buying from them directly helps your neighborhood public schools, libraries, fire departments, parks, and more. How great is that?!”

LA Guide – Hollywood

3/2/19 I am updating this post, but it’s incredible how most of the originals are still my all-time favorites and go-to’s when I have guests in town or give recommendations!

I’ve added mostly photos, but a few great newer places to check out – Rubies + Diamonds, Tocaya Organica, The Highlight Room, TAO, Blackwood Coffee Bar, Lono, Division 3, Afters Ice Cream, and Pace Joint. There’s also a few OG’s I can’t believe I didn’t include the first time – Mashti Malone’s Ice Cream which has been a Hollywood Staple for about 40 years! And Tiago which was my go-to breakfast place when I lived in Hollywood. I’ve also included a few gyms to burn off the calories after you eat and drink at these incredible places.

Recently I had my 5 year anniversary of moving to Hollywood so what better time to write up a guide or list of recommendations for anyone who wants to explore my neighborhood? Sorry for the lack of photos, most of these places are dark and sexy so even if I posted photos from there you wouldn’t be able to see anything!

Eyebrow Threading and Tinting

One time when I was about 16 years old I was getting a pedicure at a nail salon when the tech asked me “You want eyebrow?” (as in eyebrow waxing) I told her no thanks to which she replied bluntly, “You need it.” I had no clue how to tweeze my eyebrows so I didn’t do it and here was this woman telling me my brows are a hot mess. Obviously I agreed and have been grooming my brows via waxing, threading, and tweezing ever since. You’re probably familiar with waxing and tweezing, so let’s talk about eyebrow threading.

Eyebrow Threading

Eyebrow threading is similar to eyebrow waxing in that you are removing hairs in order to groom and shape your brows for a more polished look. The person doing the threading uses a string or thread that they double and then twist. The person doing the threading holds the string in both hands and hold the loose end of the string in their teeth to pull it taught. They then roll the twisted part over the eyebrow hairs they are removing which snatches the hairs they are removing by plucking the hair out (similar to tweezers) at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, they can remove several hairs at once. Here’s what it looks like:

Where to Buy Makeup in LA

If you’re a beauty junkie that’s planning a trip to Los Angeles you might be wondering where to buy makeup in LA. I’m not a makeup artist or really “in the biz” so all of these places are also open to the public. I’ll start off by saying that Los Angeles is a large city and even though 2 locations may seem close distance-wise, it can take forever to get between them especially if you are going during rush hour. I’ll start with a few of the big ones you may have heard of that are unique to LA. These are all located in the Valley. I’ve made a Google Map of the best makeup shopping in LA. If you’re coming in from out of town you may arrive at the LAX airport and the Valley is going to be the furthest possible place from the airport so I would not recommend making these your first stops, but here they are:

Date Night Idea – Painting Ceramics

Last night it was my turn to plan a date and I decided to go with something super sexy… just kidding I picked one of my favorite things to do growing up- painting ceramics. When I originally pitched this idea to my friends to see what they thought everyone immediately pictured the movie Ghost and some sexy clay wheel pottery action, but I researched that and it costs like almost $200 for 2 people so that is not what I did.

ghost-demi-moore-patrick-swayze-movie-pottery-class-clayMy date and I went to Glaze Fire in Silverlake (similar to a Color Me Mine, or my old faves Do Art and Village Paint Pot). At Glaze Fire you pick out a premade ceramic object and paint or decorate it to your hearts content. You pay $10 per person for the sitting fee which includes the supplies (paint, brushes, etc.) and the glazing once you’re done. You also pay for the object you choose to paint. Mine was a regular coffee mug and it was $15 to give you a rough idea. At Glaze Fire they have mostly items that have a purpose too so things you can actually use once you make them. They had plates, cups, mugs, spoon rests, trinket trays, boxes, coin banks, and more. Sarah was working there the night we went and she was awesome at explaining how everything worked and giving us tips on our paintings.  Continue reading

A story about the time that I went back to Jeremy Piven's house. It did not end well. www.blushinginhollywood.com

I Went Home with Jeremy Piven: A Cautionary Tale

In light of the new Entourage movie I thought I would share a story of something that happened almost exactly 5 years ago on my first trip to LA.

The whole reason why I live in LA is because of my best friend Annabelle. We met in high school and then were living in separate places for a while and at the end of my time in grad school she decided it was time for us to both live in LA. I had never actually been to LA before so she flew me out in June 2010 for my birthday present and we stayed at The Roosevelt Hotel and had quite the adventure.

One of the fun touristy things to do when you’re in LA is to get tickets to be in the audience for a late night show. We decided to get tickets to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on back to back dates because of the guests. The first day the guest was The Situation and I’m not going to get into why we were interested in seeing him in this post since that is a whole other story and the second day the guests were Jeremy Piven, Drake, and Louis CK. FYI if you want good seats at a show like this the secret is to dress up.

The first day we were picked to sit in the front 2 seats and we made friends with someone in the band who got us out of waiting with the crowd the second day and instead we got to wait in the green room with a few of Drake’s entourage who stared at their phones the whole time and we were seated back in the front 2 seats again.

Here’s a blurry Blackberry photo of a Polaroid that was taken on our first day visiting the show. Remember it was 2010.

NYXFACEAWARDS 2014

Like most people I never win anything, but I was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets to the NYXFACEAWARDS 2014 on Twitter! I brought my good friend and fellow beauty blogger Molly aka Girl Get Glamorous. You have to check out her blog it’s really amazing and I learn tons from it. Molly came super glammed up with a classic black winged eyeliner and red lip (MAC Riri Woo which she swears by) for the event and looked amazing:

This event was a blast and the planners really did an excellent job making sure it was fun and that there wasn’t any boring down time. The only down time we really had was before we were let into the event which saws fine because Molly and I can gab about makeup and hair and boys for hours. The event was held at the Nokia Club at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles on August 22, 2014. The point of the contest is to find The National Beauty Vlogger on YouTube of the Year and the prize is $25,000. The contestants had made it through the four challenges and went from top 30 to top 6 and they were flown into LA to create their final video entry which premiered at the awards show. The contest was open to any beauty blogger 15 and older and 3 of the finalists were teenagers! Here’s a picture of the finalists: Continue reading
