Soft Waves Hair Tutorial

I have been so bored with my hair lately! When I straighten it it’s flat and lifeless, curling it looks the same every time, and don’t even get me started about how terrible it looks when I try to embrace my natural once-curly-now-not-curly-enough-to-wear-curly texture. That’s why I was so glad to find this super easy hair tutorial that just gives your hair a “bend” or a very soft waves which is similar to how the Kardashians have been wearing their hair. It’s simple, fast, and will make your hair way less boring immediately. I’ve also gotten a lot of compliments every time I’ve worn my hair with soft waves like this so I definitely recommend it!

What Clothes You Need for Skiing

I’m absolutely not an expert (far far from it), but I planned my trip to Mount Hood, Oregon a few months in advance so I had plenty of time to ask everyone I knew about what clothes I needed to stay warm and comfortable while skiing. If you’ve never skied before, you’re going to need to buy or borrow the following:  Continue reading “What Clothes You Need for Skiing”

Traveling in Style – What to Wear to the Airport and What to Pack

Bonjour! Just practicing my French because I’m headed to Paris for the first time ever in a week and a half!! While preparing for my trip I had to take a look at this book I have to see if it had any European travel tips. The book is Classy by Derek Blasberg and in it I learned a few VERY good tips that I still use this day:

What to Wear to Coachella

If you’re like me and always expending tons of energy trying to figure out what to bring on trips in order to be prepared for any weather/situation/temperature/activity then you’re probably wondering what the hell to wear to Coachella! If you don’t know, Coachella is a huge music festival that’s in Palm Springs aka the desert every spring.

Coachella is 3 days long and the fashion is almost as important to Coachella as the music. Coachella is one of those few rare times that you can dress in basically a costume in public and no one will judge you. I will warn you that at 28 I’m a pretty pragmatic young lady so if you’re one of those girls that has no problem wearing Louboutins all night, bold lips any day without worrying constantly that lipstick is on your teeth, or outfits that are basically taped to your naughty parts you probably have a much higher commitment to lookin’ fly than I do.

Here’s my tips are on what to wear to Coachella including affordable clothes and accessories. Be sure to check out my What to Bring to Coachella post.

Shoes for Coachella

Coachella is enormous I’d guess depending on how active your group is you will be walking up to 6-10+ miles per day in a grassy field. I wore flat boots when I went because my friend Meagan told me to wear boots that “don’t even have a 1 inch heel. Not even the littlest baby heel. Flat. On the ground.” And I think that was really good advice. If you wear heels you’ll probably hate yourself and end up barefoot. If you wear sandals they are going to get jacked up by all the dirt and your feet will be stepped on by fellow festival-goers. If you’re even more chill than I am you could wear sneakers and be comfortable as well.

Dresses and Skirts– Pick some that are long enough so that when you sit on the ground you’ll have a little bit of a fabric barrier. Also consider wearing shorts underneath for added comfort and because it can get super windy. Continue reading “What to Wear to Coachella”

What to Wear to a Fashion Show

A few weeks ago I was invited by a friend to go to a show at LA Fashion Week. It was my first “big time” fashion show I’d ever attended. I originally thought it was the first fashion show I’d attended period, but then remembered back to my days in Gainesville, FL supporting my model roommate walking the runway (miss you Val!). Anyway the show was Sue Wong “Fairies and Sirens” on October 15, 2014 at LA Live and after watching the video on the invite I was immediately obsessed with Sue:

In this video Sue talks about her brand and she is such an artiste it’s just great. She also discusses how her 3 different mansions inspire her dresses so yeah the video is pretty amazing. As far as how to get invited to the shows unfortunately I don’t know how one does this. I was lucky enough to be invited by a friend whose aunt knows Sue. The show was on a Wednesday evening and the dress code was cocktail attire. I decided to go a little more casual, but yet still chic and in all-black which seems like a fashionable thing to do, right? Here’s the outfit I wore:

My Vampire Costume and How I Made My Boobs Appear Larger

I had so much fun getting vampy for Halloween this year that I wanted to share the details on my hair, makeup, costume, and accessories on the blog for you all.

Makeup:

I started off my costume hunt at the LA area beauty mecca Naimie’s Beauty Center. If you don’t know, Naimie’s is a two-story warehouse filled with wigs, drugstore and high end makeup (MAC, Makeup Forever, Lime Crime, Ben Nye, Red Cherry Lashes), hair products, special FX makeup, and more. It is an awesome place for beauty lovers. I bought the Ben Nye Vampire Kit for $18 that looks like this:

One of the guys there recommended I check out Halloween Town in Burbank because they had a surprisingly small selection of fangs at Naimie’s. The products I ended up using from this kit on the night of Halloween were the Vampire Character Base (which I was worried might be the color of my actual skin, but luckily it was lighter) and the mint flavored fake blood. I did use the other cream colors when practicing for my look a few nights beforehand, but didn’t end up using them in the end because they were harder to blend than the powder products I ended up using. If I was doing it over again I think I would just buy the blood and possibly the base. Here’s the video that inspired my practice run:

And here’s what the practice one looked like:

For the makeup I ended up doing, I used Shaanxo’s video as inspiration:

Fabuluxe Jewels Haul

So in case you haven’t noticed, I have started posting on a schedule with new posts every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday so today’s is a little bonus post! I was on the hunt for some awesome statement necklaces at a really great price and I looked at so many sites before finding Fabuluxe Jewels. The reason I wanted some big gaudy jewelry is because a) I’m tacky and b) it really frames your face, hair, and makeup in photos. Plus I just like sparkly things! Here’s some examples: Continue reading “Fabuluxe Jewels Haul”

My First Grouper Experience

When I first heard about the concept of Grouper I was intrigued, but instantly was turned off by it. Grouper is a social club that sets up drinks between 2 groups of friends: 3 guys and 3 girls. I immediately thought, but what if the guy I like likes one of my friends? That always sucks when that happens! You also get no choice as to who you are set up with so it’s a totally blind group date (except you know what your 2 friends look like because you invite them). You also have to pay for Grouper and I have never used a dating site I had to pay for. Grouper costs $20 per person plus a 10% tip for your server which covers their introduction and concierge service and a free first round of drinks at the bar they select for you (the concierge part).

Grouper is actually not claiming to be setting you up on a date and people who sign up don’t have to be single (but God would I be annoyed to go out with a group of guys who were all in relationships wtf). They are planning a night for you with the perfect girl to guy ratio and giving you ideas on how to make it fun. These ideas include preparing “two truths and a lie” before the date for a fun discussion or playing the iPhone game “Phrase Party”. I will say that going on a Grouper definitely takes a lot of the pressure off of the conversations you’re having and you feel less like you’re on a job interview and more like you’re hanging out with friends which is nice. Going out with friends also forces you to be a more authentic version of yourself because your friends might call your ass out or tell the embarrassing stories you might have tried to avoid which does help you get to know each other much faster. It also forces you to actually make a plan instead of getting stuck in chatting or messaging back and forth purgatory.
